Urologic Disease
More Information on the COE on Urologic Disease is on the Urology Website.
The Center of Excellence on Urologic Disease will focus on discovering and implementing innovative treatments for the most prevalent urological disorders, including prostate cancer, bladder cancer, urinary tract infection and kidney stone disease.
For bladder cancer—the fourth most common cancer in men and eighth in women—one emphasis will be on investigating ways in which the bladder-specific cancer markers discovered here at the NYU Langone Medical Center can be used to assess how well treatments are working.
NYU is already at the forefront of science in this field, with a third of the many avenues being explored at the Center being a novel version of a virus that specifically attacks tumor cells while sparing normal ones in both the prostate and the bladder. This version of the virus was engineered and patented by an NYU microbiologist.
